Actually I’m not a big fan of parties. Usually when I have a dinner with friends, 4 is the best. I feel more than 6 is too many. If there are more than 6 people, it gets difficult to let everyone hear what each other is saying. People end up only talking to ones sitting next to them. If I were the host I’d be worried that someone is left alone.
I feel quite worried about hosting a birthday party for Boeing’s 100 anniversary. Ever since the 99th anniversary I’ve been thinking doing something special for the 100.
👆👆👆First of all is to show up in Seattle on July 15, 2016.
As to how to celebrate, I had many ideas💡—like borrowing someone’s backyard for a BBQ, having a dinner party at Museum of Flight’s cafeteria, or celebrating at Sea-Tac airport.
As time gets closer I started to realize it’s not as easy as I imagined😥😥…. My Boeing friends wouldn’t be in Seattle; Museum of Flight wouldn’t be open to public; Sea-Tac airport doesn’t have a table big enough.
So I made a compromise and decided on a restaurant recommended by my friends.
And instead spend the time on decorating the dinner table and a birthday cake.
More importantly, thanks everyone for participating and wear blue for the birthday💙💙💙
For the restaurant, I really have to thank Janice. July 15 turned out to be a Friday and we had a big group. The restaurant we were trying to reserve doesn’t take large dinner groups. She made so many calls to book the restaurant. She even had to, embarrassingly, say “we don’t work for Boeing but will be celebrating for Boeing”😂😂😂

I’m grateful my friends are willing to gather for Boeing so I reluctantly gave away Boeing souvenirs. Hopefully after the party these souvenirs will accompany them and remind them how airplanes have made our lives better.
I figured the gift bags should have snacks too, so I went to Target to buy bags and pack the airplane snacks. Thanks to Jeff for driving me to Target.
Each individual gift bag is different. I thought a raffle would be more fun. Everyone was happy when they got their gifts and I was happy too.
The restaurant was busy on a Friday. I couldn’t decorate much. At first I thought I could put up a Boeing poster in a corner😂😂😂… but we could only decorate the table.
Since I asked everyone to wear blue, I hoped the table decorations are blue and white as well. Besides buying blue-and-white plates, cups and straws that no one uses, I think the best part is the blue-and-white balloons
Thanks to Kevin and Hiroshi for going to Dollar Tree and buying balloons with me. The clerk was rather reluctant to fill our balloons and we had to be creative to stuff 7 balloons in the car👍👍👍
But with the balloons our table looked completely different and it felt more like a party😍
I wrote about this earlier… The original plan was to buy a Boeing cake. I did a lot of searching on Yelp before going to Seattle, but a delicate themed cake is quite expensive, easily over $120. Many people who come to this dinner party are avgeeks and I was worried the cake shop will prepare an A380 instead of a 747!
I feel I was blessed by Boeing💙💙💙. Thanks to Brian’s friend for introducing an angel to me. On the day of my flight to Seattle, I got to meet a girl, Tingting, who knows how to make a cake. So I changed my travel plans and spent a day at her house to make the cake together.
Tingting doesn’t like to take pictures, but she’s really good at making cakes. She’s so kind and she’d make cakes for friends and the homeless. I’m happy to know an angel because of Boeing☺.
✈Thanks for Everyone who Showed Up!
Thank you for spending time with me during a really busy week and only falling asleep after listening to my gossips and nonsense😏😏. Hope your work and graduate school studies go smoothly and please always love me😂 We can find time to travel together but no hiking please hahaha
Thanks for showing me the airplanes at your school and the library, and lending me your phone to play Pokemon. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have known Tingting. Thank you so much and hope your military service goes smoothly. I’m glad you like your Boeing souvenir. Hold onto it!☺
Thank u Kevin for requesting days off for Boeing’s birthday and driving all the way down from Vancouver. It was quite a thrill getting across the border. Hope you can get many flights to Hong Kong and perhaps we’ll run into each other😏
Thanks Jeff for keeping Boeing in mind even though you’re in another fleet. I’m glad that you came too even though you’re so busy with work. Hope you get another raise after another and fly your favorite Boeing one day☺
I can’t believe I went to Seattle four times and only met you this time. Too bad you don’t know Mandarin to know all my jokes😂😂😂. Thanks for taking photos for us and being our “selfie stick “😂. Hope your work goes smoothly and come visit Taiwan some time!!
Time flies and you’re already in sophomore year! Thanks Nana for coming to the party for me, and taking the time to eat lunch with me😘😘😘. I’ll sing so many nana songs for you😂! Come visit sometime!
I can’t forget when we run into each other at the Boeing factory!!!😂 The Boeing pilots I invited couldn’t make it so I feel lucky running into a Boeing pilot from Taiwan. Thanks for coming to the party. With the souvenir hat and your shirt you were “the most Boeing-ish”that day!
Thanks Alex for being the cake delivery driver! I’m glad you met so many new friends, especially Chad! Hope one day I’ll love the gym as much as you do😂😂. Please do tell me if you ever visit Taiwan!
Thank you, the most adorable angel, TingTing! I really like how you love cooking like how I love airplanes. Hope you will open your cake shop one day and realize your dreams. I’ll definitely fly over and visit!
Actually Boeing’s birthday is also Hiroshi’s birthday, but he didn’t say anything and Kevin later reminded me. We celebrated his belated birthday the next day. Thank you, Hiroshi, for joining us from Vancouver. I feel like I’m getting better at speaking Japanese haha!
Thank you Sterling for inviting me to Boeing’s Founders Day. When Janice surprised me with this I almost cried. I gotta say Janice picked the right guy☺☺☺! Please learn Mandarin and come visit Taiwan with Janice soon!
Thanks the Airbus-and-Boeing pilot Tony for getting his leaves and joining but I don’t think its right that you and Jeff left me and went stargazing together ,huh? 😏😏😏haha Hope one day you’ll come back to the Boeing jets and hope we’ll see more of your “outside of Tony’s work” series!
I remember the first time you visited the Boeing factory with me.😘😘😘 I couldn’t have imagined we got to celebrate Boeing’s centennial together. Thank you for bringing Chad and I love seeing you two together. Hope you catch many Pokemons and share some with me! Good luck with work!❤
I’ll never forget this Boeing birthday in Seattle.
Hope you all had a great memory.
And most importantly, always remember:
If it’s not Boeing , I’m not going”
Love you guys 🙂
